Chokecherries

Bitter Berry and Bird Cherry or Chokecherries, but delicious!

Selection

Choose plump, brightly colored, plump cherries. Avoid soft, shriveled, or blemished cherries.  A staple of the Native American diet. The fruit is not ripe when it is bright red, wait till it takes on a deeper color.

They grow in bunches and have a single large seed.

Storage

Consume ripe cherries as soon as possible. Cherries can be refrigerated for 2-3 days.
